IMRA PRESS RELEASE - 11/2007
For Immediate Release

IMRA AND TOPTICA SIGN LICENSE AGREEMENT ON ULTRA-FAST FIBER TECHNOLOGY

ANN ARBOR, Mich., November 5,2007 —
IMRA America, Inc. (IMRA), a world leader in the research, development, manufacturing and application of ultrafast fiber lasers, and TOPTICA Photonics AG (TOPTICA) (Munich, Germany), a world leader in diode laser and femto-fiber technology for industrial and scientific markets, have signed a license agreement for IMRA femtosecond fiber technology. The technology enables TOPTICA to further expand its product offerings in this vital field.

In the agreement, IMRA licenses TOPTICA a large portfolio of IMRA patents related to ultra-fast fiber lasers.

“One of TOPTICA’s core competences is to provide ultra-stable or narrow-band tunable light. Today our world leading diode lasers cover the widest spectral region between 205 and 3000 nm. The new and unique FemtoFiber™ product line, based on ultra-fast fiber technology, covers a similar tunable wavelength spectrum between 480 and 2100 nm using supercontinuums both in the visible and infrared spectrum,” emphasized Dr. Thomas Weber, President of TOPTICA. “Licensing the IMRA technology further enhances our laser development capabilities and will facilitate commercialization of our fiber laser products. We look forward to building a long association with the highly respected IMRA team.”

Mr. Takashi Omitsu, President of IMRA, added: “Over the past 15 years, IMRA has made an enormous investment in fiber amplifier and fiber laser research, leading the industry in developing the technology required for generation and amplification of very short laser light pulses with excellent beam quality. As the international fiber laser community recognizes the importance of intellectual property licensing, IMRA is continuing to advance the state of this art for the benefit of both manufacturers and users of fiber laser products. We welcome TOPTICA, a key member of this community, as an IMRA licensee.”
