IMRA America Licenses Optical Amplification
Technology to Nufern
ANN ARBOR, MI / EAST GRANBY, CT,
Jan. 26, 2004 — IMRA America, Inc.,
(IMRA) a world leader in
the research, development, manufacturing and application of
ultrafast fiber lasers, announces an agreement with Nufern to
license IMRA’s patent for amplification technology enabling Nufern
to offer a wider variety of optical fiber sub-assemblies based on
Nufern’s specialty fibers.
In this agreement, IMRA, based
in Ann Arbor, MI, licenses Nufern U.S. Patent No. 5,818,630 “Single-Mode Amplifiers and
Compressors Based on Multi-Mode Fibers.” This patent is relevant
to sub-assemblies based on Nufern’s Large Mode Area (LMA),
Double-Clad (DC) fibers. Nufern is a leading independent
manufacturer of high power amplifier and fiber laser
sub-assemblies and specialty optical fibers based in
East Granby, CT. >“This IMRA technology can allow
Nufern to add more value to customers of Nufern’s LMADC fiber-based standard and
custom subassemblies, providing enhanced performance and power
scaling attributes,” said Martin F. Seifert, president and CEO of
Nufern. “We believe that our sub-assembly capabilities provide a
great deal of value to our current and future customers. We are
honored to build upon our long association with IMRA’s highly
respected team of research and development scientists.”
“IMRA has a long history of
leadership in the ultrafast research arena that has generated a
tremendous amount of intellectual property and know-how,” said
Takashi Omitsu, president of IMRA America. “This agreement is one
of our first steps in accelerating the commercialization of this
technology by making it widely available through additional
parties. We believe that the combination of our intellectual
