IMRA is an acronym for "Institut Minoru de Recherche Avancée", so named for the first facility opened by Aisin in Valbonne/Nice France in 1986. The idea of a global IMRA research and development network was born in Japan and championed by Mr. Minoru Toyoda, the Honorary Advisor to the All Aisin Group. A laser in which the lasing medium is an optical fiber doped with low levels of rare-earth halides to make it capable of amplifying light.
