8th Annual Best Places to Live and Work in
America
Each
year our editorial staff looks forward to the challenge of finding
the best places to live and work in America. There are so many
spectacular locations throughout the United States that offer
professionals great employment opportunities and at the same time
provide a lifestyle that is conducive to being either single or
for raising a family. Choosing one locale over another is never
easy.
Our 8th annual Best Places to Live & Work in America
features cities that in some instances are best known as great
college towns while others are known because of the institutions
of higher learning in their cities. Each location is unique, but
each shares in a commonality of solid community economics, substantial
job growth, good schools, recreation, cultural events and much
more.
The honorees represent a great cross-section of Americana. The
No. 1 ranking this year goes to a region that has made the Best
Places to Live & Work in America list every year. Raleigh-Durham-Chapel
Hill is a dynamic area that is home to three renowned schools
of higher learning - North Carolina State University, University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University - that are
located less than 25 miles from each other. The presence of these
institutions over the past few decades has helped generate tremendous
economic growth in Research Triangle Park, which has grown to
136 businesses that employ approximately 45,000 workers in a wide
array of industries such as: biotechnology, information technology,
environmental sciences, public health and more.
Whether strolling through Harvard Square or kayaking on Tempe
Town Lake, Best Places to Live & Work in America has at least
one city that will intrigue someone. If a professional is seeking
new work challenges or looking for a different place to call home
he or she will get a great head start on where to begin their
search. - Diane P. Licht-Metheney, Managing Editor Employment
